Lotus Notes & Domino

Lotus Notes & Domino are set of programs designed to enable group of people to work together. As original and still as a leaders in the "groupware" products, they also enable a collection and organization of data. There is an e-mail, systems for forum discussion, information warehouse, system for the project management, knowledge managementa and system of web applications. Domino Designer is a developing tool which enables customization of existing applications, as well as development of the new Notes applications (databases).

Lotus Notes & Domino together make a client/server program. Lotus Notes is a client program. It is installed on the client computer and it communicates with a server (is uses existing data, presents it to the user and it sends new data towards server). Lotus Domino is the server program. It is placed on a separate computer, and users can access it over LAN, WAN or modem. Notes databases are found on the Notes server. Server enables (or disables) users' access to the databases accorind to the access rights which are designated in ACL (Access Control List) for the each database.

Independent of Opearting System

No matter what the oprating system, Lotus & Notes users access the data on Domino server over the network. All clients have the access to the information regadrless of their operating system (Windows, OS/2, Macintosh, UNIX, NT or Nowel platforms). Even mobile notebook users can share the same information because they are updated (replication in both directions) with each new connection establishment.

To support all business needs, Domino offers few servers:

  • Domino Mail Server (e-mail, web access, "Calendaring & Scheduling", news-groups, mobile support, web standards)
  • Domino Application Server (colaborative web-applications)
  • Domino Enterprise Server (clustering and partitions, dynamic updating, suitable for applications with high performances and reliability)
